Comcast is already been in the public eye a good deal with the recent upgrades they have made to their Docsis 3. 0 network. Now they are in the process of gearing up Comcast offers of broadband speeds of 100Mbs, to businesses in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul twin cities. As the first area chosen for the run out of this service, it is the best prepared because of the mature Docsis network which already exists in the region.

As yet there are no dates available to tell when the new super fast 100Mbps broad band roll out will start, but suffice it to say these will be available to all the subscribers who are already connected to the Docsis 3. 0 network. The goal is to be able to provide 80% of the present best Comcast offers customer footprint with this service. This could mean about 40 million people in the US! Presently the Docsis network already covers 65% of this footprint.

It is a fact that competition in the broadband industry is pretty dynamic, so it appears that Comcast wants to get ahead of them in leaps and bounds, before the real competition starts, 2009 seems to be they year to get this project started.

This company already provides 50Mbps broadband services to a large majority of their customers, both business and residential and this is the maximum capability of many of their rivals. Rivals don’t seem to believe that there will be a great demand for this type of high speed service, but not Comcast. Once the rollout of the service begins, it will create a market as customer from other services start envying these speeds.

Only when this service starts to impact on the provision of high speed broadband, will we know if there is a true demand for it, and what to expect from such a service. Cost is another pivotal factors, but one thing is certain, this service will keep Comcast as one of the leaders in this industry.
